Disclaimer and Safety

Educational use only

MESH is a free educational reference. It explains how 3D printers, materials and software behave in general, so you can make better decisions about your own. It is not a substitute for your printer maker's manual, your material maker's instructions, or a safety data sheet (SDS).

Every setting in MESH is a starting point for a test, not a guarantee. Printers, firmware, slicers and material formulations differ, and they change over time. When MESH and your printer or material maker disagree, follow the maker.

Safety comes first

  • Heat and fire. A printer has a hot end and often a heated bed. Follow your printer maker's guidance on supervision, keep the area around it clear of anything that burns, and do not disable firmware safety features such as thermal runaway protection.
  • Electrical work. Unplug the printer before you open its electronics or work on wiring. Anything involving mains voltage is a job for someone qualified, not a step in a guide.
  • Resin. Uncured resin, and anything it has touched, needs the gloves, eye protection, ventilation and disposal method that the resin's own SDS specifies. No resin is safe to pour down a drain, including water-washable resin.
  • Fumes and particles. Printing gives off particles and fumes that vary by material. Print in a ventilated space, and follow the material maker's ventilation guidance.
  • Moving parts. Keep hands and hair away from a printer that is moving or homing.

No warranty

MESH is provided as is. Kinetic Carving is not responsible for damage to printers, prints, property or people that results from using the information here. Test on something you can afford to lose before you commit to a long or valuable print.

Brands and links

MESH names printers, materials and software where the advice depends on them. Naming a product is not an endorsement, and product names belong to their owners. Links to outside documentation go to the maker's own pages where possible, and each lesson lists its sources at the end.
