The 3D printing answer you actually came for
MESH is a free field guide to 3D printing, for filament (FDM) and resin printers. No sign up, no course to buy, and no video to sit through before you get the answer.
Three ways to use it
- Search. Type what you see, in your own words: "spaghetti", "hairy print", "not sticking". You do not need the technical term, because every lesson carries the everyday words for its problem too.
- Browse by area. The bar across the top splits the guide into knowledge areas. Each one lists its lessons in the sidebar, roughly in the order people learn them.
- Start at the beginning. New to printing? Begin with FDM versus resin, so you know which half of the guide is yours.
What is in here so far
MESH is new and growing. These areas have lessons today:
Every number says what kind of number it is
The difference matters more than the value, so settings and figures carry a label:
- Formula A relationship that is always true, such as layer count from height and layer height.
- Maker spec A figure published by a printer or material maker. It is theirs, for their product.
- Starting point A value to begin a test print with, then adjust from what the print shows you.
- Rule of thumb Something that works most of the time, with exceptions.
- Measure it A number only your own printer and material can give you, by testing.
MESH will not give you one magic temperature or speed, because there is not one. The same filament type differs from brand to brand, and the same setting behaves differently on different printers. What MESH does instead is explain which way each setting pushes a print, so you can test your way to the right value and know what to change when it goes wrong.
